The Greater New Orleans Chapter
of the
Society of Decorative Painters
We are a non-profit organization that was formed in March of 1976 as an affiliated chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters (www.decorativepainters.org ).  Membership includes New Orleans Metropolitan area and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.  Our members range from beginners to those who are very experienced.  All types of mediums are used including (but not limited to) acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil and oils.  The mission of our chapter is to stimulate interest and education in the art of decorative painting in a fun and enjoyable environment.
G.N.O. provides monthly paint-ins, workshops and an annual weekend painting retreat.  The paint-in programs are usually on the 4th Sunday of the month after a brief meeting.  These paint-in/meetings are full of creative ideas, art work, and "how to's" to inspire you.  Several times a year we have two day workshops with teachers brought in from around the country.  They guide us through a painting, sharing their techniques and tips to expand our painting skills.  Last but not least is our annual retreat.  A weekend of good ole downright fun, plenty of delicious food, friendly people, beautiful grounds and tons of painting.  Retreat offers 12 classes over two days and a variety of make-it/take-it projects.
If you enjoy creating art or think you may, come visit us and we teach you how.  You can be our guest for up to three paint-in/meetings before deciding to join.
Everyone is welcome!!

*Monthly painting projects at every meeting
*Monthly show-n-tell of art (great for inspiration)

Let’s get a head start on painting for next year’s donations.  Watch for those after Christmas sales when you can get these unpainted surfaces at great prices!!!

November 2011 Meeting Project

Our project for this month will be taught by our president, Teresa Thiel.  She will show us how to paint greeting cards using an acrylic paint and alcohol technique with appliques.  This is a project where everyone will all use the same techniques...but each card will be unique!  Each person will receive a packet that will include supplies of greeting cards with envelopes, appliques, yarn, buttons and cutouts to make 2 cards.  Come prepared with a sponge brush no larger than 1" wide and a cheap brush to use for splattering and you will be sure to have an afternoon of fun, fellowship and creativity!!  This cost will be $6.00.

Happy Painting,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!.......to Lita Ducote, CDA

Lita passed her MDA Stroke certification at this year’s SDP Conference which was held in Wichita, Kansas.  Lita was the only one to pass this category from the U.S.  Our chapter presented her with flowers at our recent painting retreat for this great accomplishment.

The book includes an array of easy and tasty recipes along with a yummy Low Calorie section. There is a little something for everyone including original artwork on the cover by one of our members. Each book is also autographed by contributing members. Several times a year our ladies do a cookbook signing where samples from the cookbook are given out. If you are ever in New Orleans, please check with us to see if a cookbook signing is scheduled. We would love to see you to share our food and maybe some cooking secrets. In the meantime if you would like to order our book, you can do so on Aunt Sally’s website http://www.auntsallys.com/ or you can mail order a copy by
